Flight Series - Merlin
Cape May, NY
An adult Merlin (Taiga type), probably female based
on the brownish rather than blue-gray color on the back. This is a small
falcon which is not especially common. Unlike the Kestrel, it does
not hover. This photo was shot at Cape May during the October
migration. It's attention is focused on Art Morris' pole decoy owl "Hooty" which was used to attract passing raptors.
Shot on Provia-F fils at ISO 200 with a 600mm lens at f4.0 and
1/1600sec.
This is an interesting shot of the bird but it is only a small portion
of the frame and is not suited to larger print sizes than 8x10.
Availability: on request.
